At Sunvera Group, our goal is to enrich lives by empowering doctors and teams to advance in the evolving landscape of eye care. The values we display in our daily work are what allow us to be successful in achieving this mission.
Each quarter, we select one stand-out team member throughout the Sunvera network to receive the United in Our Vision Award.
Recipients of the award are those who consistently demonstrate Sunvera’s core values: Put People First, Together we Succeed, and Pursuit of Excellence. This quarter, team members across the organization were asked to nominate a colleague and select one of the three values that best align with the nominee’s strengths and behaviors.
Out of 500+ team members throughout Sunvera, there were 15 nominations, who were then scored by our panel of judges to bring us to our Top 5. We are thrilled to honor Sam Alwaaele, at Ophthalmic Specialists of Michigan, for his commitment to Together We Succeed!

“I would like to nominate Sam Alwaaele for the United in our Vision award, Together we Succeed. Sam is continuously pumping up the teams he is assigned to as well as the others in the same building. His positivity radiates to both team and patients. His willingness to go above and beyond for our patients is demonstrated daily. Last week he helped a patient find her keys and reattach a strap on her purse that she could not buckle due to her arthritis. Sam offers to help in every department, regardless of his assignment. Recently he offered to cover testing on a Friday afternoon, without any hesitation. He jumps in without being asked, which is a huge help to all. He can work every capacity of any clinic and do so with a smile. When it comes to teamwork, his true title is FLOAT. He enthusiastically travels to all locations and has been asked to return anytime due to his professionalism, skill and positivity. Sam acclimates to any EMR, and physician protocol. Please consider him for this award. I can guarantee that if you have met him, you are greeted with a fist bump, and left with a smile. This is no different for our patients, he treats everyone with kindness and respect. Collaboration comes naturally to him, as he is always thinking of others that may want to join our wonderful organization. Sam is a true team player. We are fortunate to have him on OURS. “

“Sam is an Ophthalmic Technician who spends a lot of time at the OSM clinics and functions as a “float” enthusiastically working wherever he is needed in the Metro Detroit area. Sam has the perfect personality and set of skills for this type of role. He can do it all in the clinical space and does so with a smile and with teamwork top of mind each day. Sam is always ready to give his best work and go above and beyond for the team by assisting when he sees teams getting backed up, whether it is another clinic, or in the testing room. He also makes sure to bring his “dad jokes” along for patients, team members, and our physicians to enjoy.”
